Mercedes-Benz Truck Prototype

Have you ever yearned for a heavy-duty truck that offers incredible fuel efficiency to navigate through the traffic-ridden streets of Chicago and Northbrook, IL? Mercedes-Benz may have created the solution. The Urban eTruck prototype, which was born out of collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Trucks, was announced recently to create a solution for business owners looking for a work truck that doesn’t require much—or any—fuel.

The Urban eTruck is completely electric so drivers won’t have to stop at the gas station unless they need to stop for a snack. Additionally, the eTruck has a total weight capacity of 29 tons and can hold a charge for up to 124 miles.

So, where did Mercedes-Benz get the idea? This electric truck prototype is based off a short-range delivery three-axle Mercedes-Benz truck. Impressively, the battery pack consists of three lithium-ion battery modules, which will be tucked underneath the cargo area.

Unfortunately, the Urban eTruck won’t be available until at least 2020. For now, take a look at our lineup of commercial Mercedes-Benz models in our new vehicle inventory.
